Hope 81 is working to challenge a few long-held assumptions about Japanese basketball (too short, too weak, too?) by introducing a new brand of grassroots player development. Since 2009, Hope 81 began organizing a team of Japan’s best up-and-coming street, pro and international players to play in the world’s top showcase tournament: QUAI 54 in Paris (pictured above). The goal is to help players develop necessary in-game and intercultural communications skills, and provide team members with opportunities for increased exposure and visibility. Tryouts are coming to Tokyo later this month!
